Something about Mental Health & Covid
You know how they say that when you are put inside a cage you can either recompose yourself into a new shape or distraught yourself into something you never were. The same happened when the never expected pandemic hit the world with a storm and everyone’s “normal” was changed into newer frosting routines.
Being isolated and staying inside a room for more than 10 days can really change your perspective and play with your mind in an astonishing way. To give you a live example, I’ll talk about myself, an average 18-year-old living her life with her family who supports her and talking constantly to her friends on social media platforms who love her too, but this girl never thought that this Covid could change her life and she would get post covid depression.
They say when you have the best you would still be asking for more and that is how human psychology works, always looking for more out there but when it comes to mental health, your mental health begins with you, a little torch shoving a piece of light inside you and waiting for you to shine it but most of the time the light gets lost in the darkness. The darkness of your within, your inner demons waiting for you to break down and get on your knees.
Someone who used to preach about loving themselves and telling everyone that the night is the darkest before the dawn, the 18year old really struggled with loving herself after getting covid positive. Not only did her body change afterwards but her heart and mind too. She lost interest in the things she loved to do and became more negligent over herself with time.
This was a story of the writer telling one story about themselves, then imagine the countless number of individuals whose mental health was disturbed by the Coronavirus Pandemic but the actual problem isn’t these mental health issues, the actual problem is the unbreakable stigma we have against these mental health issues. You go through it, I go through it but none of us talks about it? Why? Ask yourself this question today.
There is nothing wrong with facing depression or any other mental health issue but it is wrong to not treat them and talk about your feelings with anyone. Let’s start talking about them from today and share our stories for those who could get strength from our words. I’ll begin with myself. I’m Eman, an average university student, who has had depression, anxiety issues, and was on antidepressant medicine. You are not alone in this.
You are not alone, you are strong, beautiful and loved. 🤍
